SICOMAT – Sustainable and Innovative COating MATerials

The Project aims to develop and demonstrate a sustainable and efficient process for the integration of graphene-based thin coating on polymer substrates, based on additive manufacturing techniques. The integration of the graphene coating intends to give these substrates electromagnetic shielding properties, to create ultra-light shielding materials for use in various application areas, including the automotive sector on which the project focuses. The solutions developed will be based on the concept of sustainability both in relation to the production process, with a strong reduction in material consumption (thanks to additive manufacturing) and energy (in line with energy transition strategies), and in relation to the product final, significantly lightened with consequent decision on the environmental impact.
The production technologies will also be integrated with highly digitalized control systems, following the guidelines of the digital transition, with a view to developing highly efficient processes and carrying out preparatory monitoring to guarantee and certify the quality and repeatability of the products produced.
